An asteroid is a small rocky chunk in our solar system. For us to call it an asteroid, the object must be small, it must be made of rock, and it must orbit the Sun rather than being a planet.

A scattered field of various irregularly shaped rocky bodies floating freely in the profound darkness of space. They are illuminated brightly on one side by the distant Sun, showing us a diverse collection of small, jagged asteroids drifting together in our solar system.
